DOOR PRIZE • Anyone who is at home watching live or present for the Staff Meeting will be placed in drawing: • For one of two complimentary iSERVE – LifeFlight Conference registrations • Anyone working Dayshift 7/14/11 will be placed in a separate drawing for a complimentary registration • Anyone working Nightshift 7/14/11 will be placed in a separate drawing for a complimentary registration

  5. Anticoagulant Education • Because of the risk of serious harm to patients who receive anticoagulant therapy, the Joint Commission has made • “reducing the likelihood of patient harm associated with the use of anticoagulant therapy” one of its National Patient Safety Goals.

  6. As part of that goal, it is specified that patients/families need to be educated about the importance of follow-up, compliance, food-drug interactions, and the potential for adverse drug reactions and interactions.

  7. Education Resources • Link to print anticoagulation education in the OPC anticoagulation section. • EDOCS • Heparin • Coumadin/warfarin • Lovenox • Vitamin K content of selected foods.

  8. English & Spanish • Lexicomp can provide handouts in other languages. • **Pharmacy provides limited support for Coumadin patient anticoagulation counseling during the hours of 8am-4pm Monday-Friday.

  9. PROCESS • Provider orders anticoagulant for therapeutic treatment. • Treatment order generates a nursing order for anticoagulant education.

  10. Patient Education Materials • Education order incorporated into the OPC and Whiteboard alerts. • Nurse documents education in HED, in the anticoagulation section of the education record. • OPC will reflect that education is complete. A star note by pharmacy will also update the whiteboard to indicate completion.

Continues…. • Lab Tubes remember to invert 5 times to prevent micro clots from forming, this is causing an error in blood values • EMTALA  air or ground transportation own by hospitals ie: LifeFlight or Event Medicine • PAPRs have move to cabinet in EMS bay • Exec. Order President Obama who ever a patient deems a visitor is allow to visit

Continue…. • Sitters duties • Huber Needle new kits coming with huber needs in the kits and other size will be single packed • Salary Increases Job Code- Adjustments • Any employee, regardless when you started at Vanderbilt,  who is not at the minimum hourly rate for your specific job code will be moved up to the minimum rate regardless of your current status in the Emergency Department.  You will not receive both the job code adjustment and the annual evaluation raise.  You will receive which one of the two is greater.  Non-Complaint / PIC Employees • If you are currently above the minimum job code hourly rate and you are non-complaint or on PIC and you wish to get a raise then you will need to complete any items that have not been completed.  Once completed  then you will need to notify your respective charge nurse so they can notify Chris so pay increase can be made.  If you are on PIC,  then once you have come off of PIC then it is your responsibility to notify Chris that you have come off of PIC and a pay increase can be made.  The raises will not be retroactive.
