  1. VP of External Affairs’ Report GSA Meeting, 4/10/2013 Congrats Antwain!

  2. Freeh Advisory Council: Subcommittee on Ethics and Culture • Met on 3/28, right before main Council • Guest: Chris Brady, Dean of Schreyer Honors College, co-chair of Senate Honor Code/Values/Conduct Committee • Trying to better define his committee’s role and especially determine course for any overlap between his committee and the Council/subcommittee • Likely, Freeh Council will focus on core values statements and broader University culture, his committee more academically-based and less deadline-oriented • Received list of core values from word cloud generated by responses of various University programs and sectors • Reasonable starting point for culture survey language

  3. Freeh Advisory Council • Reviewed drafts of new University policies, provided by General Counsel (Steve Dunham) • Independence of Police and Public Safety • Guidelines and Criteria for Legal and Risk Reporting to BoT • Policy on policies (don’t laugh) • Also discussed COI policies that will apply to Trustees and high-level employees (i.e. Dean and above for academics, VP and above for admin)

  4. HUB Advisory Board • Will soon be doing appeals meeting for office space allocation decisions(closed meeting) • Space allocations next year may be challenging due to interior renovations • BoT meeting in May should be when Trustees formally approve HUB expansion • All construction activity: 5/2013 to 5/2015 • 5/2013 to 12/2014: no East entrance HUB access • HUB parking deck people will have hard time getting quickly to HUB during construction • Multiple other locations will have construction offices/equipment in lots too • Student Concerns Chair and VP External: expect parking complaints, at least for after 4 PM parking on campus

  5. Capital Day • Happened yesterday, had fun! • Pretty good turnout for undergrads, unfortunately *very* lacking in terms of grad student involvement • Felt good to have open dialog with legislators, but needs more planning next year for talking points • Anyone interested in working on it next year: we should talk, I have some thoughts on how to better execute next time

  6. Facilities Fee Board • Met on 4/3, final meeting of current Board • Osmond Study Lounge • Very recreation-based renovation (i.e. 8-person theater, gaming systems, space for lounging and talking) • Concern about it disturbing nearby classrooms and offices that are immediately adjacent, but students will be working with staff in the area to avoid such issues • Next Board will decide on funding for this • White Building • 100% of N. White will have A/C by end of summer 2013

  7. Facilities Fee Board (cont’d) • Schwab Auditorium • Upgrades to various things (technology, stage, etc.) finished by end of summer 2013 • Possibility of $300K shortfall on the project, but it’s unclear if that can be mitigated by downgrading some planned equipment…we’ll have to see how it goes • IM Building Construction • Toying with idea of putting extended basement underneath adjacent field • Phase IIA (recently approved by Board) scheduled for 2/2014 to 3/2015 • Working on improving marketing strategies and online format for requesting students’ set-aside $250K facilities funds; next Board will figure out details and implement

  8. Thank you for a wonderful year!
