Women’s Legal Rights
Synopsis Our group project is about the Women’s legal rights, which states the problems related to forced marriages prevalent in the third world countries. So, we came up with an idea of forming a non-profit NGO named “Legisfemme” which provides free legal services and helps women to utilize the laws to escape from abusive relationships and advance their living situations. The legal services operate on a pro-bono basis, with a panel of lawyers who take certain number of cases each year. After divorce is granted, the women will be put in touch with local organizations that will help them in job training. The goal of the company is not only to aid women, but also to acquaint them about their rights. Most of the countries often have rules made to protect women, but either they are not aware of it or law is not being enforced. The spreading of knowledge about such laws, as well as the examples of women fighting for their rights, will hopefully inspire others to stand up for themselves; eventually they would share the acquired knowledge with other women in similar situations.
Nujood Ali: 10 year old divorcee
Problem Women in other countries are often forced into marriage, resulting in abusive relationships. There are laws that can be used to escape these relationships, if only women knew about them and how to utilize them.

Defense We wanted to come up with an idea that would help women in countries around the world escape abusive marriages. In many countries there are laws that protect women’s rights, but women are often unaware of them. It is only when these laws are brought to attention that they are enforced.
Barriers & Solutions Money for administrative costs Donations Grants Encouraging women to seek aid Working to counter the stigma attached to divorce Encouragement from past clients
Benefits Immediate Women can seek legal aid and begin the process of legal action Short-term Through this opportunity women are encouraged, educated, and eventually freed from abusive relationships, Long-term Women are seen as equal members of society, thereby resulting in a change in culture in countries in which forced marriage is prevalent.
Future Plans In the future we hope to- Reach out into villages Spread to other countries Develop into helping not just married women, but also young unmarried women
