Content Area: Social Studies • Grade Level: Second • Summary: The purpose of this power point is to familiarize students with the five major oceans. • Learning Objective: Given facts and information about the five major oceans, students will answer questions within the power point with 100% accuracy. • Content Standard:Content Standard: 3.0 Geography enables the students to see, understand and appreciate the web of relationships between people, places, and environments. Students will use the knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts within the six essential elements of geography: world in spatial terms, places and regions, physical systems, human systems, environment and society, and the uses of geography. • Accomplishment: 3.03 Demonstrate how to identify and locate major physical and political features on globes and maps.

  3. The Pacific Ocean • The Pacific Ocean is the world’s largest ocean. • It covers about 35% of the earth. • This ocean separates Asia and Australia from the Americas. • The Pacific Ocean is the world’s deepest ocean.

  4. The Artic Ocean • This Ocean covers the North Pole. • It is located in the Northern Hemisphere • The Artic Ocean is the coldest ocean. • It is also the smallest ocean.

  5. The Indian Ocean • This is the third largest ocean. • It covers about 20% of the Earth. • It is named after the country India. • The Indian Ocean borders Eastern Africa.

  6. The Atlantic Ocean • This is the second largest ocean of the world. • The Atlantic Ocean covers approximately 22% of the Earth. • It separates the Americas from Eurasia and Africa • It connects to the Arctic Ocean to the north.

  7. The Southern Ocean • This is the fourth largest Ocean. • It lays between 60 degrees south latitude of the Antarctica coastline. • This ocean wasn’t discovered until the year 2000. • It is also known as the Antarctic Ocean.
