  2. Riga City Sustainable Energy Action Plan 2010-2020 (SEAP) • Riga signed the Covenant of Mayors in the year 2008 and assumed an obligation 20-20-20 at 2020 • SEAP was approved by the Riga City Council in 2010 • The first progress report of SEAP was worked up in 2011. There was pointed out that CO₂ emissions decreased by 49% compare to 1990.

  3. Introduction of RES types use in Riga: • hydroenergy – Riga HES (Daugava cascade) connected to the power supply system of Riga • biogas • solid biomass • subsurface ground heat • solar energy • electric cars

  4. B I O G AS Biogas cogeneration (CHP) plants: ◙ Sewage water treatment plant “Daugavgrīva” (LtD “Rigens”) – 2,1 MWel.; 2,6 MWth; ◙ LtD “Getliņi EKO” solid communal waste treatment plant – 5,3 MWel.; 6,8 MWth. Heat to be used in the greenhouses farm.

  5. Solid biomass – wood chips JSC “Rīgas siltums” - main operator of centralized district heat supply in Riga The target – increase the share of solid biomass up to the 20% in the heat supplier fuel balance before the year 2015

  6. SUBSURFACE GROUND HEAT Riga municipality installed space heating based on the ground heat pumps in the two kindergartens, thereby closed the two coal-fired boiler houses: Kindergarten “Kastanītis” – 10 thermal probes in vertical boreholes with depth – 120m; Two stage heat pump with the total capacity 57,5 kW

  7. SUBSURFACE GROUND HEAT (2) Kindergarten No 108 in the neighbourhood Mežaparks - 12 thermal probes with depth – 80m; Two heat pumps (2 x 29 kW)

  8. SOLAR ENERGY Global monthly solar radiation on horizontal surface in Nordic cities of Europe (kWh/m²): Most important solar PV plant in Riga was installed by the hazardous waste treatment company “Zaļā Latvija”LtD - with the annual production capacity 156.000 kWh

  9. ELECTRIC CARS IN RIGA First registered electric cars (8) in Latviaare in Riga, incl.: - Riga municipality – 5 pcs; - JSC “Latvenergo” – 2 pcs - electric cars sales dealer – 1 pcs There was registered in Riga also the car with both electrical and gasoline engines, which is the famous in the world OSCAR - first electric car – the participant of Dakar international rally competition
