  2. Hatchet • I chose the hatchet as my first choice, because the hatchet could do many things. I could use it to help make fire, a spear, a bow and arrow, cut wood for fires, and be used for hunting. Hatchets are important, because the hatchet could be used for more than one thing. I think that if I had a hatchet in the woods, I would be safer, because it could scare away animals by its sharp edges that could kill them. It is important to keep a hatchet at all times, because it could cut hard things such as aluminum.

  3. Matches • Matches are important because they could help me make fires. The fire that the match made could scare away many animals that come to my shelter. The good thing about matches is that I could be saved, because it could create a signal fire. The signal fire is to help rescuers find that people who are lost, and they would rescue you. I chose the matches for one of the items to keep in a survival kit, because without matches, I would not be able to stay warm. Another good reason to keep matches in a survival kit is because if I don’t have a match, I wouldn’t be as protected, as the animals that live in the woods might come to my shelter.

  4. Cook Ware • Cookware is important, because I could cook food with and carry large amounts of water. Cookware is good because taking water with your hands is harder to do than carrying large amounts of water in the pan. It is also important to have cookware because you could use it to cook the food, so that you could stay in the wild for a long time. Brian used the cookware for making a stew dinner, by getting water from the lake and cooking the food with his fire.

  5. The sleeping bag is important to me, because I could sleep comfortably in the wild. The sleeping bag is good to pack in a survival kit, because it could protect me from the insects that live in the ground. Sleeping comfortably in the wild would help me get a lot of energy to get wood for the fire. Being protected is important, because if I have a sickness I could die if I am not able to find food or gather wood. I think Brian should use the sleeping bag, because he could be protected from the mosquitoes. Sleeping Bag

  6. I would pack a first aid kit in my survival kit, because if I were hurt, I could cure the wound. The first aid kit would help me heal from a cut, from bleeding, and from broken bones. Curing a broken bone, bleeding, or a cut is good, because if I cure a broken bone, cut, or bleeding, I could still collect food and wood for the fire. Brian should have used the first aid kit, because he was hurt badly after the plane crashed into the lake, from the moose attack, from the skunk attack, and from the porcupine attack. The first aid kit would have Band-Aids, gauze for bandages, splints for broken bones, and creams for healing cuts. First Aid Kit

  7. Shovel • I packed a shovel in my survival kit, because shovels could be used to build traps for animals. Another good thing about bringing a shovel in my survival kit is using it to make an underground storage. Making traps to catch animals is good, because the animal is trapped and I could kill the animal with a hatchet. Using a shovel to make an underground storage is good, because I could put things in the storage and protect it from the animals.

  8. Fishing pole • I would put a fishing pole in my survival kit, because I could use it to catch fish to eat. Another good thing about a fishing pole is that it could grab things that are deep down in something like a deep hole. The fishing pole could also lure animals, and then I could kill them with the hatchet. Brian could have used the fishing pole to catch fish. Brian could also have used the fishing pole to get his hatchet from the bottom of the lake. Brian could lure animals by adding food to the hook.
