  1. Welcome to ACC’s Writing Center

  2. Students in distance education classes and seated classes have the same options for Writing Center assistance. The Writing Center is open to all students at Alamance Community College and may be used for any writing assignment in any course. Here you will find tutors who can offer guidance for any part of the writing process from brainstorming to final revision. A writing tutor will encourage you to explore ideas and will ask you questions about development, organization, grammar, and mechanics. Viewing writing as a process will help you to meet your own goals as a writer as well as to meet the requirements of a particular assignment. Over time, this process will improve your skill and help you achieve your academic and career goals. The Center offers the following services: • Individual sessions, by appointment or walk-in, with a writing tutor who will read your paper and ask questions that will help you revise for development, organization, grammar, and mechanics. • Online (e-tutoring) appointments for help with your writing tasks if you cannot come to the Writing Center in person. • Computer space where you can revise after an appointment and ask questions as they arise. • Workshops on writing skills (by instructor request). The Writing Center is located at the Carrington-Scott Campus, Room 354 of the Main Building in the Academic Skills Lab (behind the Information Desk area).

  3. Everyone who uses the Writing Center needs to register before their first time. You can register online at https://alamance.mywconline.net. If you need help registering, stop by the Center, and we’d be happy to help you in person.

  4. It takes just a minute to register, and you only need to do it once while you are a student here at ACC. Make sure you know and use your ACC email address. Be careful of typos. You will need to repeat this information in order to log in. You can leave the email options at their default settings.

  5. Once you have registered and logged in, you will see a schedule similar to the one below. On the left, you will see the names of all the tutors at the Skills Lab and Writing Center. The tutors whose names have “writing” after them are writing tutors, and the white boxes following their names indicate their available appointments. Click on a white box to schedule an appointment.

  6. When you click on a white box, a pop-up window similar to the one below will appear. If you schedule an e-tutoring appointment, make sure you attach your paper and the instructor’s assignment prompt or directions.

  7. If you need help scheduling an appointment, you can either stop by the Writing Center or call us at 336-506-4190.
