  2. Speech • How they say it The accent, voice tone, speed, and other attributes of speaking also says a lot about a character • What they say The words that a person speaks says a lot about them

  3. Thoughts • Feeling Feelings can be given away by body language and tone. • Thinking In a written story, a person’s thoughts can easily be exposed. In plays, monologues can be used and in movies, thoughts can be betrayed from self-talk to action.

  4. Effects on Others • Emotions- are others attracted or do they move away? Does the character invoke love or fear? • Reactions- are they popular or alone? Leaders or followers? Do others help or ignore? The way a person interacts with other people says a great deal about their character. This shows factors such as empathy and social understanding.

  5. Actions • A test of character is how they interact with other people- how selfish or sympathetic are they and will they help others without expecting something back in return? With Others Under Stress When we are stressed, our behavior often changes to something less thoughtful- consider attitude as well. The way a person acts is driven by how they think, feel, and how they interact with others. The actions of people is where the true character emerges.

  6. Looks • Expression- facial expression and other body language tells a lot about a person. • Dress- dress says something about what they can afford and also about their sense of fashion. The appearance of a person can give much away about them, although appearances can be deceptive. Looks should not be the only way a character is portrayed.
