  3. Overview • Planar type linear polarization antenna has been developed for ultra wideband system • This antenna covers wideband from 3.1 GHz to 8.3 GHz with small size and implemented in omni-directionally • Antenna architecture is a patch and CPW feeding ETRI

  4. Antenna architecture Antenna architecture is based on CPW feeding and matched using multi-step impedance matching technique Substrate information =4.5 H=0.76 mm Copper thickness = 0.035mm Loss tangent = 0.002 Size : 30mm x 30mm Matching Ground CPW feeding ETRI

  5. DUT Antenna characteristic S parameter characteristics are measured like following figure. The return loss is less than 10 dB from 3.1 GHz to 8.3 GHz Network analyzer ETRI

  6. DUT Antenna characteristic The distance between two antennas is 15 cm. Insertion loss is constant from 3.1 GHz to 8.3 GHz Network analyzer ETRI

  7. Antenna characteristic Measured group delay in the boresight direction ETRI

  8. Antenna characteristic The minimum gain is –0.43 dBi, the maximum gain is 3.1 dBi and gain variation has less than 3.53 dB ETRI

  9. : Co-polarization : Cross-polarization Antenna characteristic Gain patterns in the azimuth plane 8.5 GHz 6.0 GHz 3.5 GHz ETRI

  10. : Co-polarization : Cross-polarization Antenna characteristic Elevation gain patterns 8.5 GHz 6.0 GHz 3.5 GHz ETRI

  11. Antenna characteristic The impulse generator transmit impulse signal using this antenna and is measured by oscilloscope. The signal level is reduced 1/10 because of path loss but the impulse response is similar with the source. Signal source using cable Measured characteristic using antenna ETRI

  12. Real appearance The real size is 30mm by 30mm and backside has no copper. It has the omni-directional characteristic. ETRI

  13. Summary • Small size and simple architecture wideband antenna is developed for UWB system. 1) This antenna covers from 3.1GHz to 8.3GHz wideband 2) The group delay and insertion loss characteristics are very constant ETRI
