Tools of the Trade ChemCatalyst: List at least four tools or pieces of equipment you think a chemist might use in a chemistry lab.
Lab Equipment & Safety Purpose: To learn about some of the many different laboratory tools chemists use and to learn the layout of your lab and the location of the safety equipment.
Map your classroom Draw a simple diagram of your lab room, showing the desks and storage areas. Be sure to label any exit doors! Locate the safety equipment listed here in your lab and label each item on your diagram. • Fire blanket Shower Aprons • Eye wash Fire Extinguisher Fume Hood • First Aid Kit Goggles
Part II Scavenger Hunt Each group member will search for one of the four items listed under the appropriate letter below. If your group does not have four people, divide the items to suit the group. Work slowly and carefully. After you find your items, follow these steps: • Label the location of the item on your diagram. • Bring an example of the item and explanation card back to your desk. • Read the card to your group.
