Why was Africa? • Africa was colonized for 3 reasons- Racism, Religion, and Resources. (the big R) • esources • acism • eligion
What Resources were? • Africa is very rich in natural resources. • Africa has an abundance of people that can be used for physical labor. (slaves) • South Africa has the majority of the world’s gold and gemstones.
How would these resources benefit_________? • They could get the resources for free/cheap, then manufacture and sell them for a huge profit. • European Countries could get rich without using their own resources.
How did _________play a role in colonization? • They wanted to make the Africans more like their own culture, since they believed the African cultures to be inferior.
What role did _____ play in Colonization? • Many Europeans were Christian, and the Churches wanted to spread their religion to the non-believers. • Many Africans followed traditional religions, and were polytheistic. • Missionaries were sent to Africa to convert Africans to Christianity.
