  3. God’s Law & the Gentiles • Men have always been under Divine law,Rom. 5:12-14; 4:15 (1:18) • Only those under divine law commit sin • All people sin (Rom. 3:23; Isa. 24:5) • Therefore, all people are (have been) under divine law 3

  4. Divine Law: Revealed or Inborn? • How was divine law (truth) given to the Gentiles (mankind)? (Heb. 1:1-2) • Before the cross? • Some say: “Law on the heart” or “Universal moral law” that was instinctively known • If so, the Scriptures will indicate this • After the cross? 4

  5. God Revealed His Law to Mankind from Creation • If truth was not revealed, men could not live by faith (Heb. 11:2-6; Rom. 10:17) • But, men did live by faith… • Adam, Gen. 2:16-17; 3:17 (Hosea 6:7) • Abel, Gen. 4:3-5 (Heb. 11:4) • Enoch, Gen. 5:24 (Heb. 11:5)  Truth was revealed & obeyed 5

  6. God Revealed His Law to Mankind from Creation • If truth was not revealed, men could not be unfaithful • But, men were unfaithful to God… • Cain, 1 Jno. 3:11-12 • Men of Noah’s day, Gen. 6:5 • Sodom & Gomorrah, Jude 7 (Gen. 2:23-25)  Truth was revealed, but disobeyed 6

  7. God Revealed His Law to Mankind from Creation • Man learned God will…he was not born with it inside him: • Adam, Gen. 2:16 • Abimelech, Gen. 20:1-7 • Job, Job 31:1-4, 9-12 7

God Revealed His Law from Creation • God’s law that Gentiles were under was not in written form • Yet, God revealed Himself, Rom. 1:18-32 • God’s will known and shown, 1:19 • They knew God but didn’t serve Him, 1:21 • Rejected God & Histruth, refused to keep Him in their knowledge, 1:25, 28 • Knew God’s ordinance, 1:32 • Result: Futile thoughts & darkened hearts; Under wrath, 1:21, 18 8

Spiritual Condition of Gentiles Compared with the Jews (LOM effective) Rom. 2:14-16 • Under law & judged sinners, 2:12 • When Gentiles naturally practiced what was written in LOM, the “work of the law” was written on their hearts, 2:14-15 • Knowledge of sin; wrath, Rom. 3:20; 4:15 • Those who lived by this knowledge & kept a good conscience before God will be excused, 2:15-16 9
