  2. Introduction Circuit protection (especially conformal coating) requirements are not necessarily considered at the PCB design stage Key factors to consider are: Location of ‘keep out’ areas Proximity of ‘keep out’ areas to critical components/areas Component topography

  3. Design Considerations Check that the solder resist/components are compatible with the selected conformal coating. Location of components and track should be optimized for coating application method. Design out “through hole vias” where required. No silicon based compounds on board. Add tooling holes for the application method if automated.

  4. Design Considerations Cleanliness requirements, clean or no clean and flux type. Areas to be masked and method of masking. Conformal coating selected. Application method. Thickness specification. Inspection standards.
