Windows 2000 at RAL • There is a W2K planning group, but very little activity to date • CLRC central NT support decided to do • Y2000 rollover • Office 2000 rollout • Then think about Windows 2000 - wait for SP1 • Some tests have just started on Windows 2000 Professional (RC 2) • No plans for AD, DNS etc (yet) HEPNT SLAC, DPK, RAL PPD

Windows 2000 MigrationHTASC sub-group • See HEPNT web for links to HEP-CCC, HTASC • hepwww.rl.ac.uk/HEPNT/ • Windows 2000 involves many complex issues • Dynamic DNS • Active Directory (HEP namespace?) • New s/w installation, configuration and management • NT4 to W2K transition planning • Use of LDAP, Kerberos etc. • UNIX/NT integration or coexistence HEPNT SLAC, DPK, RAL PPD

  5. New W2000 Migration groupDraft mandate 1. To investigate and test the new features of Microsoft's Windows 2000 operating system, with particular emphasis on those issues related to the migration from Windows NT V4.0 which may need coordination across HEP. 2. To make recommendations to HTASC/HEPCCC on those areas where a coordinated migration plan is required. These plans should take into account any potential benefits for the integration of Windows 2000 and UNIX as used in HEP. 3. To share the expertise gained with other HEP Windows NT system managers by organising an open Windows 2000 migration workshop and/or by other appropriate means. (A small group of HEP NT experts. Initial mandate for 12 months) HEPNT SLAC, DPK, RAL PPD
