Clavet School Awards Criterion 2013-2014

1. Clavet School Awards Criterion 2013-2014 Recognizing Excellence in: ACADEMICS ATHLETICS ARTS

2. Honour RollGrades 7-9 • The names of the students achieving Honour Roll will be placed on an engraved plaque and will receive a certificate. • Criteria: • Students with an average between: - 85% - 89% will be on the “HonourRoll”. - 90-94% will receive the designation of “Honour Roll with Distinction”. - 95% or greater will receive the designation of “Honour Roll with Great Distinction”.

Honour RollGrades 10-12 • The names of the students achieving Honour Roll will be placed on an engraved plaque and will receive a certificate . • Criteria: • Students with an average between 85% - 89% will be on the “HonourRoll”. • Students on the Honour roll with an average between 90-94% will receive the designation of “Honour Roll with Distinction”. • Students with an average of 95% or greater will receive the designation of “Honour Roll with Great Distinction”.

5. Grade 10 • 8 courses in that year are used Grade 11 • 8 courses in that year are used Grade 12 • 8 courses in that year are used

6. Subject Awards • This award is presented to a student in each subject area from grades 7-12. If more than one form of the subject exists, a subject award will be presented to each form. • Not all subject awards may necessarily be given out each year. • The award recipient for each subject is based on the following criteria: • The student must be functioning at his/her capacity in class. • The student must demonstrate enthusiasm and passion for the class. • The student must be one of the top 3in terms of marks. • The student must come prepared to class. • The student must hand in assignments & projects on time. • If a student receives 100% in the subject, a subject award will automatically be given. • In the case where two or more students fulfill the criteria above equally they may be deemed by the committee as: • Co-winners of the award OR • A winner may be determined by looking at the total contribution in that year to the subject area.

7. MOE HRYCIW AWARD • This award is presented to one grade 12 student who has met the following criteria: • Highest average of the marks in: Biology 20 & 30 Physics 20 & 30 and Chemistry 20 & 30 (weighting; 60% at Level 30 and 40% at Level 20) • Must have taken all six science classes. • If no student meets the criteria above the award will not be presented that year.

8. IVOR TRISCHUK MATH AWARD • This award is presented to one grade 12 student who excels in the field of Mathematics. The recipient must meet the following criteria: • Have the highest aggregate of the final marks in Foundations and Pre-Calculus 10, Pre-Calculus 20, Pre-Calculus 30 and Calculus. • In the case where two or more students fulfill the criteria above equally they will be deemed by the committee as co-winners of the award.

9. PROFICIENCY AWARD • Awarded to one student in each grade from 7-12. • Criteria to be eligible for the award : • Must have a minimum academic overall average of 85% • Must participate in at least one club/team • Must volunteer in Clavetschool • Must demonstrate strong character attributes POINT AWARDING SYSTEM:

10. ACHIEVING EXCELLENCE AWARDS • Three levels for these awards based on the number of points (proficiency points) the student has accumulated for the year. • The three levels are: • Gold (140 + points) • Silver (120 – 139 points) • Bronze (100 – 119 points) • All students in a grade who meet the point requirements for the student proficiency award (based on the same scoring system), receive a certificate.

11. JR. & SR. ATHLETE OF THE YEAR • Junior: One boy and one girl in grade 7-9 may win the award. • Senior: One boy and one girl in grade 10-12 may win the award. • Recipient of this award: • Must have participated in a variety of school sports. • Must have consistently worked to his/her full potential • Exhibited a high level of commitment to both practice and game schedule • Contributed significantly to the team’s season and/or to the success of the team • Exhibited some/all of the following positive qualities on and off the court/field: • Leadership • Team work • Communication • Commitment and loyalty • Work ethic • Ambassadorship – good representative of the sport, school and community • Respect for coaches, teammates, opponents and officials • Sportsmanship • Recognizing that there needs to be a balance between academics and athletics. • In the case where two or more athletes fulfill the criteria above equally they may be deemed by the committee as: • Co-winners of the award OR • A winner may be determined by looking at the total contribution in that year to the school athletic program.

12. CLAVET SPORTS TEAM AWARDS • The coach of each team selects a maximum of 2 awards given to the recipients of their choice. • The type of award given is decided upon by that specific coach (MVP, MIP, hustler, heart, etc…)

13. PERFORMING ARTS AWARDS - Jr. Drama – Sr. Drama – Musical – • A maximum of 2 awards will be given to the recipients of their choice. • The type of award given is decided upon by that specific coordinator (Best Actor/Actress, Breakout Performance, Most Dedicated, Shining Star, …)

14. JR. ARTISTIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD Awarded to a student in grade 7-9 that meets the following criteria: • Involved in the musical, Jr. Drama and/or Sr. Drama and excels in their role. • Excels in the quadmestercourses of visual art and music. • Showcases excellent talent in all of the above areas • Dedicated to working hard in their artistic achievements.

15. SR. ARTISTIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD Awarded to a grade 10-12 student that meets the following criteria: • Involved in the musical and/or Sr. Drama and excels in their role. • Enrolled in and excelling in visual art, photography or drama as an elective class. • Showcases excellent talent in all of the above areas. • Dedicated to working hard in their artistic achievements.

16. GRADE 8 STUDENT LEADERSHIP - Sarah ThiessonAward – • A trophy was donated to the school with the intent that it would be presented each year to a worthy Grade 8 student. The recipient is chosen by the previous year’s recipient in collaboration with the grade 8 teachers.

17. STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AWARD • This award is presented to one male and one female from grades 10-12. • Nominations and selection for this award are done by the committee. • The recipient must demonstrate the following qualities: • Leadership • Respect for authority, himself/herself, others and all school properties • Self-control in speech and action • Friendliness, cheerfulness, politeness, and kindness • Neatness and personal pride in dress, work, desks, lockers, washrooms, etc. • Honesty, trustfulness, reliability, and trustworthiness • Willingness to contribute his/her talents and to cooperate in school activities • Makes full use of his/her academic ability through hard work, perseverance and regular attendance • Maintains an average above 75%

18. DIGNEAN SCHOLARSHIP • The Dignean Scholarship was established by Mr. Lorne Dignean in 1999. The scholarship takes the Dignean name in order to commemorate Mr. Dignean’s parents and his brother who lived in the Clavet District. • The scholarship of $500.00 is to be awarded to students entering the study of Theology and/or based on financial need. • Students may apply in September of their graduating year. They must provide proof of registration and a copy of their student loan application and amount granted before September 1st of the following year. • Award winner is determined by committee.

19. ANDREW EAGLES MEMORIAL AWARD-Star Phoenix - • The Star Phoenix is sponsoring an award for a graduating student of Clavet in memory of Andrew Eagles. One student from Clavet Composite School will win this prestigious award worth $1000. • The winning student must be in the top 5 for ELA A10, ELA B10, ELA 20, ELA A30 & ELA B30, be enrolled in a post-secondary institution, and excel in all strands of ELA. • Through this award, The Star Phoenix and Clavet Composite School hope to keep Andrew’s memory alive while helping a deserving Clavet graduate continue his or her education. Many thanks to the staff of the Star Phoenix for so graciously sponsoring this award. • Award winner is determined by committee.

20. SPIRIT OF THE YEAR • Two awards: one from 7 to 9 and one from 10 to 12. • Students vote for students from their respective junior or senior area. • Award is based on a student’s: • Involvement in school activities • Leadership shown in promoting school spirit • Positive attitude to students, staff, academics, sports and other activities

21. CITIZENSHIP AWARD One recipient per grade - voted on by the committee. • Awarded to the recipient who demonstrates the following characteristics: • Respectful • Polite • Well-mannered • Positive attitude • Brings positive energy and enthusiasm to the school

22. CERTIFICATES • A Sign-up will be organized for those individuals who would like to receive a certificate for: • Honour Roll, Honour Roll with Distinction or Honour Roll with Great Distinction • Subject Award(s) • A.C.E. Award
