  1. Henry Hudson The Life of Exploration

  2. (1565-1611) • Henry Hudson lived to be only 45. • Henry had a very short life. • On Henry’s fourth expedition, to the North American Arctic, his ship was caught in the ice. Henry’s crew mutinied. Henry, his son and seven members of his crew were set adrift in a small boat and never seen again.

  3. Number of explorations he did. • Henry had four exploration in his short life. • He only had four because he and 7 of his crew ended-up being lost at sea. • They were never seen again.

  4. The reason of his explorations • Henry was hired to find a northwest passage. • Also to explore a trade route for the English.

  5. Henry’s Explorations • Henry had many explorations. • He was hired to do these explorations by the Dutch East India company in 1609. • Henry was sent to find an all water route to Asia. • He sailed on a ship called the Half Moon. • In 1607, Henry lead an expedition to find a north west passage.

  6. Henry’s Explorations (cont.) • In 1610 Henry was hired again to travel north. • He sailed north and passed through what is now the Hudson river and Hudson Bay. • When they got farther north the water began to freeze. • The Half Moon ended-up being trapped in the ice.

Henry’s explorations (cont.) • After a while they ran out of food and began to starve. • Soon after, Henry’s crew mutinied against him. • Henry his son and seven other crew members were set adrift in a small boat, no food or water. They were never seen again. • A few of his crew made it to England and were never punished for there mutiny.

  8. The result of his voyages • The Hudson River and Hudson Bay came to be. • Henry had established the New World claims for the Dutch in what is now New York and for the English, Northern Canada.

  9. How important this explorer was to History!!! • Henry Hudson was very important to history. • The first reason why is that he sailed through what is now the Hudson Bay and Hudson River • Another reason is that he claimed, for the Dutch, what is now New York and Northern Canada (for the English).
