  2. What? Roman Aqueducts

  3. Who? Nobody is sure who invented the first Roman aqueduct.

  4. Where? Ancient Rome

  5. When? Construction on the first Roman aqueduct began in 312 BC

  6. Why? The purpose of the aqueduct was to supply water to the many citizens of Rome.

  7. How? There were two sections to how aqueducts were built, one above ground and one below. The sections above ground level used concrete, brick, and cement to construct arches to support a sloped channel for water to flow. For the sections underground, they dug a channel usually 1 meter below ground level and had man holes scattered along it to give inspections and repairs.
