Services and Programming Recommended services and programming with justifications.
Services and Programming Program Create READ posters for staff and students. Justification This will show borderline readers that many different people read. It promotes literacy. Using people familiar to students makes it more interesting and fun. It could be used as a reward after reading a book; read a book and we can put up a poster with you on it!
Services and Programming Service Create a library web page, blog, and Facebook page to post book reviews, goings on, pictures, and student suggestions These will promote literacy, get the word out about services, show off what the library is doing, and allow others to change the library. They should be fun and easy for the students to access what they are interested in. Justification
Services and Programming Program Have staff and students write book reviews to be posted in the library and on the library webpage, blog, or Facebook. This also promotes literacy. It provides students who do not know what they want to read, but do not want to ask a way of finding new material. It helps students interested in reading to feel that they are making a difference. Justification
Services and Programming Service Have staff work with students who need help reading, or want to talk to an adult about books. Some students need a little more help. This allows students to read books out loud, learn about themes, or just have an adult to talk to. It gets them the developmental help that they need as well as makes them feel important. Justification
Services and Programming Program Battle of the Books Advanced readers love this program. It shows of newer titles and promotes reading throughout the month. Special events can be held to make it more exciting. Justification
Services and Programming Program Book clubs for different groups: Fiction, Graphic Novels/Manga, Science, Technology, etc. Book clubs allow students to share what they are interested in with each other. Having different clubs for different groups lets them find what they are interested. Justification
Services and Programming Service Open library hours in the morning for students to relax, read, socialize, or finish homework. Any chance to get students into the library is a chance to expose them to our services. In the morning teens are less awake and are usually rushing to get things finished. This provides a space to do this as well as a way to promote our programs. Justification
