Security Risk Has Increased • 87% increase in phishing attacks in past year • Phishing: Typically fake e-mail notes/web links attempting to get personal or organizational information for malicious purposes such as identity theft or denial of service attacks • Source of threats is more sophisticated • Organized crime, terrorists • UNH doesn’t have to be the target to be a target • It does happen here

Protect Yourself, Colleagues, UNH • Flexibility and mobility increases function and convenience, however increases responsibility • One device can cause significant issues • Disruption, Expense, Reputational Risk • PC &Mobile Devices • Enable password protection for all devices, and change passwords regularly. • Use anti-virus software (everyone), use encryption software (if needed). UNH has both. • Physically protect your devices • Report loss or theft immediately to your supervisor and UNH IT

Protect Yourself, Colleagues, UNH • Servers/Computing Resources • UNH has invested in 2 purpose-built, commercial grade data centers: Enterprise (UNH IT) and Research(RCI). • UNH IT and RCI have partnered on redundant power, appropriate HVAC, physical security, backup/restore, standard and best IT management, dedicated expert staff. • In cases where business reasons indicate that computing resources cannot use these locations, the unit is accountable. UNH IT and RCI have tools to help in those instances. • We are here to help ranging from storage to high performance computing.

  6. Communication Advice & Info • All communications are subject to Right To Know • Do not put anything in e-mail or social media that you would not want to see in a news headline or go viral on Twitter et al • Be aware of e-mail scams. UNH IT will never ask for personal or password information.
