This study investigates the effectiveness of using folktales as reading material among eighth-grade students at SMP N 2 Taman Pemalang during the 2007/2008 academic year. The experimental study examines how folktales influence reading comprehension and engagement. The aim is to determine if incorporating folktales in the curriculum can enhance students' reading skills and appreciation for literature. Insights from this research may guide educators in selecting effective teaching materials to improve literacy and cultural awareness in the classroom.
