  1. CAMCGas Turbine Repair and Overhaul The Canadian Aviation Maintenance Council (CAMC) is a not-for-profit sector council that represents and assists Canada’s aviation and aerospace industry with its human resource strategy, issues and solutions. With the participation of industry members, we develop and publish National Occupational Standards with supporting Logbooks (for professional certification) and Curricula (for post-secondary training organizations). We promote safety, professionalism and standardization through national communication with industry; Human Factors and Safety Management Systems training; individual certification in 24 occupations; and accreditation of training organization programs. The 10 month program delivered here at Neeginan Institute of Applied Technology is 60% Practical and 40% Theory. It consists of 13 modules and all material covered is in accordance with the Canadian Aviation Maintenance Council.

  3. Module 1-Workplace Safety • The purpose of this Module is to demonstrate and enforce the requirements of safety in a Gas Turbine Repair and Overhaul Facility or Environment. We discuss the use of different Chemicals, PPE, Tools, and Government and Regulatory Requirements and why we should follow safety procedures . We will perform a safety inspection of this shop to ensure we are following the safety procedures correctly, and find anything that might have been missed.

  4. Module 2- Industry Standards • In this module we will discuss how the Gas Turbine Repair and Overhaul Industry requires control and standards to ensure the safest possible product to the aerospace industry. We will learn how to follow the correct procedures and instructions along with the processes used to certify and repair aerospace product. This module will consist of an electronics project to demonstrate the reasons why standards and procedures must be followed.

  5. Module 3- Tools • In this module we will discuss the use of all the different types of tools and precision measuring equipment we need to correctly and accurately repair and overhaul gas turbine engines for the aerospace industry. This module will consist mainly of hands on tooling projects using drill presses, files, band saws and precision measuring tools.

  6. Module 4- Standards and Procedures • In this module we will discuss how to perform minor repairs to engine components, replace hardware, install locking devices (lockwire), cleaning and special handling of engines and components, marking of parts, application of adhesives, sealants and lubricants. This module will consist of about 50% Theory, and 50% hands on projects and assignments.

  7. Module 5- Lifting and Handling of Engines • In this module we will perform the storage, lifting and handling of engines and engine components. We will discuss the use of fixtures, jigs, engine stands, hoisting equipment, and the transportation of engines and engine components.

  8. Module 6- Gas Turbine Engine Operations and Theory • In this module we will discuss the basic concepts and principals of Gas Turbine Engines, explain all factors that affect performance. We will get into the operation and construction of gas path components, and engine systems (ex.oil,fuel systems). We will also discuss how to evaluate engine performance.

  9. Module 7- Pre-Disassembly Inspection • This module consists of performing incoming engine inspections. This process verifies engine condition upon arrival to a GTRO Shop. We will also complete booking in documents, verify oil condition, and prepare the engine for borescope inspection.

  10. Module 8- Disassembly and Teardown of Gas Turbine Engines. • In this module we will completely dismantle the RR250-C10/C18 Helicopter Engines in the shop. We will be using specialized tooling designed only for that certain type of engine, along with the required documentation and handling procedures required to accurately perform that task.

  11. Module 9- Non-Destructive Inspection • In this module we will discuss why we perform Non-Destructive Inspection on Aircraft parts. We will review the different types of NDI, we will then do a workshop at Perimeter Aviation to try the different equipment used to perform these inspection.

  12. Module 10- Inspection and Sorting of Gas Turbine Engine Components • In this module we will review the reasons and the procedures required to verify the airworthiness of engine components. We will visually inspect parts, we will use precision measuring equipment to determine wear, serviceability, or repairs required to bring that part back to the required condition to be used for flight.

  13. Module 11- Assembly of Gas Turbine Engines and Components • In this module we will perform a full assembly of the engine we dismantled in module 8. We will review balancing procedures and specialized build procedures and tooling to ensure the engine we assemble meets the requirements set out by the Original Equipment Manufacturer.

  14. Module 12- Engine Test • In this module we will review how and why engines are tested before and after maintenance or overhaul. We will discuss how engines are rigged, inspected and documentation required to perform this process.

  15. Module 13- Prepare Engine for Shipping and Storage • In this module we will discuss and perform an engine certification inspection. We will install all protective and inhibiting material to engine for preservation and shipping. We will also complete the required checklists to have the engine shipped back to the customer.

  16. Student Requirements • Maximum absenteeism is 70 Hours • Minimum pass standard is 70% • You have 2 re-writes throughout the course There is no final test or exam. This program goes module by module. Show up everyday and participate, and we will ensure you meet all pass requirements.

  17. CAMC GTRO Certificate • Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a Neeginan CAMC GTRO Certificate. This certificate validates that you have the essential skills and knowledge to qualify for employment as a GTRO Technician and is considered a level 1 and 2 certificate or CAMC Affiliated. During your employment you will fill out a log book with the required tasks, once you have completed the tasks in the log book you will then submit your logbook to CAMC and you will be granted you CAMC Certification.

  18. Classroom and Shop Rules • Put your cell phone on vibrate or due to emergency just ask if you can keep it on during class. • Respect and help your class mates. • Let an Instructor know if you need to leave for any reason. • Don’t eat or snack while working in the shop, due to the chemicals.
