  4. The desire to change is the key to growth in any area of life.

  5. Some groups handled planning via email and conference calls.

  7. Young Woman Representatives (YWRs) The double links represent LWML women of all ages who are joyfully united in spirit and purpose. While each member is different, in Christ all are linked together, complementing one another’s gifts, talents, and strengths.

  8. Reaching Young Women • Ask them how would they like to serve their district? • Mentoring is a 2-way street / Relationships / Valuing. • Empower and encourage them to establish a group that works for them. • Appreciate her own unique qualities and identity. Put them to use.

  9. Utilize each woman’s vocation. (Webmaster, Cook, Seamstress) • Keep families together. Be family friendly with spouses and children. • Encourage women to participant in events if they cannot attend meetings. • YOUth in Mission • Train up the child in the way he should go (Proverbs 22:6).

Commit to being a learner of cultures • Look at the demographic of your community and congregation. • Learn about the culture. • Invite them (the multicultural group) to teach and share their culture. • Go where other cultures are. It is good to invite them to come to your event, but better for you to go to their events. • Be intentional. Seek and find the skills of multicultural women. • This outreach is like the intentional outreach to young women. Ask, invite, value.

  14. Take the time to get to know a person, their background, history, and things that are important to them. • Be curious about aspects of their culture. • Ask questions. • Helping others understand YOUR culture. • Learn about other cultures. • Learn about the cultural (cues) to better understand the actions of the ladies in your congregation/district. Look at social media.

  15. People from hot cultures tend to build their lives around people and relationships. Family is most important. People from cold cultures tend to plan in terms of tasks and timelines. Examples of “hot” cultures: Latin- American, African, Southern-USA Examples of “cold” cultures: European German Anglo-American

  16. Don’t try to make people just like you, appreciate the differences. • Learn from them. • Be genuinely interested. • Be intentional. • Ask them to make an ethnic dish for the funeral dinner, Advent tea, etc.

For 75 years, the LWML has focused on affirming each woman’s relationship with Christ, encouraging and equipping women to live out their Christian lives in active mission ministries and to support global missions. 2017–2019 Primary Focus Nurturing Faith in Christ. By God’s grace we offer each woman opportunities to be in the Word and to use her unique gifts in God’s service. Making Our Faith Meaningful. We equip each woman to make a significant difference in the lives of all people. Sharing Encouragement.We value each other in Christ and we accept and encourage each woman to grow in her relationship with others.

  20. Envision a world where the Deaf community participates equally and fully in the Body of Christ.

  21. Contact the churches in you area that have deaf services. • Offer ASL as a second language. • Take ASL classes at your local Community College or Community Center. • Have an instructor come to your church to give group lessons. • Learn from YouTube. There are Lutheran YouTube vids out there.

  22. Remember • Be a teacher and a student. • Everyone has something to offer.
