  1. Flying Magnets of Death Garrett Chapman Zachery Ellis Matthew Jones Cameron Riley

  2. Obectives • Design and build a wind turbine and generator that will create enough electricity to power a small light bulb. • Make it simple enough. • Make it consistent and efficient. • Do all of the above for under $40.

  3. Building • Used old induction fan for blade. • Wooden base • 30 gauge wire • 9 coils (Each at ~150 turns) • 9 magnets • PVC for less friction

  4. Complications • Alignment of magnets and coils. • Achieving and staying at the necessary speed of rotation. • Keeping project together.

  5. Calculations • Ptheoretical = ½(ρAV3) • Ptheoretical = .5*1.225(kg/m3)*0.0425634282 m2*(8.9m/s) 3 • 18.6325302 watts • Ptested = VA • Ptested = (1.5 volts)*(.6 amps) • 0.9 watts • Efficiency = (Pt/Pth)*100 = 4.83026186 % • VERY INEFFECIENT

  6. Materials and Costs • Wire- $5 • Magnets- $20 • Wood- $2 • PVC- $2 • Fan Blade- $1 • Total: $30

  7. Conclusion • Produced electricity • Not very efficient • Learned a lot about wind power and generators

  8. Fin
