La pluja àcida La pluja àcida és provocada pel fum de les fàbriques i el fum volcànic. Es deu principalment a la barreja de l'aigua amb els productes moleculars del sofre i del nitrogen que s'ocasionen en la combustió, com per exemple òxid nitrós NO2, òxid nítric NO3 o diòxid de sofre SO2 que en combinar-se amb l'aigua generen àcid nitrós HNO2, àcid nítric HNO3, i àcid sulfúric H2SO4.
