  6. 2007 Bronx Arts Learning Community founded with 15 Bronx public schools 2009 DreamYard Art Center opens in Morrisania - after school and Saturday programs for K-12th grade students 2012 MacArthur grant expands Art Center programs to include digital learning

  7. The Bronx Arts Learning Community (BALC) is a network of over 40 public schools working to provide a high quality, continuous arts education for all students.

  9. DreamYard works with BALC schools to create an arts vision for their community and to see that the arts are distributed equitably throughout school by defining continuous arts pathways for students.

  10. In 2007... 15 Bronx schools Granted by Ford Foundation to research impact. By 2010... Three years of research: • School Culture • Teacher Impact • Student Learning Schools that were a part of the BALC: • Diversified arts offerings • Distributed arts more equitably • Served more students from Yr 1 to Yr 3 • Offered more arts programming in comparison to city wide schools (based onArts Data)

  11. The BALC is a space for teachers and administrators to connect with peers and share best practices to build their capacity as arts educators and leaders in their school.

  12. Informed by needs of the community, the BALC provides 50 hours of arts professional development each year that includes day-long retreats, inter-visitations, and arts leadership development at no cost to schools.

  13. Since our first BALC Arts Festival in 2008, our twoweek-long arts celebration is the largest in the Bronx, showcasing over 900 students performers and visual artists each year. This year, we will celebrate our 6th Annual Bronx Art Festival!
