  1. Grasslands By: Connor Schillings and Gavin Baker

  2. Grasslands are large rolling terrains of grasses flowers and herbs. Great for animal herds for grazing and usually contains various types of soil. Grasslands are primarily flatlands. Normally very dry with little trees and dead grass Grasslands Grasslands are primarily found in middle eastern North America and middle eastern and mid western parts of Eurasia

  3. Rainfall • Little rainfall causes for minimal plant life and a lot of wild fires Grasslands is as shown on the graph is one of the biomes with the least amount of rainfall. Receives as little as 30 inches of rain a year

  4. Climate • Temperatures range from 23 degrees to 68 degrees Fahrenheit • Temperatures can drop up to thirty degrees between day and night • This causes a smaller range of animals to become accustomed to the significant weather changes

  5. Herbivores • Elephant • Giraffe • Antelope • Zebra • Rhinoceros All of these animals graze the land in herds of there own species.

  6. Carnivores in Grasslands • Lion • Hyena • Leopard • Cheetah • African hunting dog All of these animals are in common because of there hunting skills and tactics.

  7. Plants • Milkweed • Fleabane • Indian grass • June grass • Bluestem grass All are capable of handling long periods of drought.

  9. Ecological Pyramid

  10. Predator and Prey Lions and most other carnivores eat herbivores like zebras, antelopes and giraffes. Most carnivores hunt in groups and stealthily surround their prey

  11. Paratisism • Fleas • Mesquites • Ticks

  12. Competition Carnivores fight for fresh food main competitions between lions and hyenas to find herbivores to hunt Herbivores fight over the limited resources of water and grass for grazing

  13. Mutualism Small animals such as birds help eat parasites off of animals like elephants and giraffes.

  14. Benefits of Grasslands Provides large areas for grazing for large herds of animals. Helps them thrive and keep there space away from carnivores. Lots of space to reproduce and have families with enough resources to survive. To keep animals having homes and not have the risk of pollution and industrialization from humans.

  15. Threats to Grasslands Hunting for animals harms the grasslands. Urbanization causes pollution and decreases the homes of animals. Plants as well die from pollution and unfamiliar conditions caused by humans. To preserve grasslands we can stop hunting on them and keep to our own cities.
