Promoting Environmental Justice: Community Engagement and Outreach in Washington State

The CHE-WA Environmental Justice Working Group aims to ensure that all individuals, regardless of their race, culture, or income, have the right to a healthy environment and active involvement in environmental policies. Established in 2004, the group works to foster dialogue between environmental justice advocates and health professionals. By empowering communities and creating guiding principles for environmental health and policy, CHE-WA addresses social justice issues and aims to eliminate disproportionate pollution burdens on marginalized populations. Get involved and make a difference!

What is Environmental Justice? • Environmental Justice (EJ) means that everyone has the right, regardless of their race, culture or income-level, to live in an environment that doesn’t make them sick. It also means that everyone has the right to be involved in environmental policy setting processes. • The EJ mission of EPA Region X is to achieve environmental protection for all, so that no segment of the population, regardless of race, ethnicity, or income bears a disproportionate burden of the effects of environmental pollution.
