Mandate • Training and professional development of teachers in the use of ICT for the classroom in accordance with the QEP • Guidance and support of teachers developing and carrying out local educational projects • Technology watch • Innovation and experimentation • Foster the provincial organization known as LEARNing Communities-RÉCIT • Member of the ESSB IT Committee

Some Key Characteristics… • Pedagogy first; Technology second • Participants have strong sense of pedagogy, organization, initiative, persistence and resourcefulness • Desire to break the feeling of isolation (within the profession; school board; region; personal) • Desire to integrate ICT into their pedagogy in order to improve student learning • Supportive and consistent leadership from school principal • Appropriate allocation of ICT hardware, software, peripheral devices, budget (school/ESSB), RÉCIT services

A Closer Look… E-Portfolioat Grosse Isle School • The “E” in E-Portfolio stands for electronic • An E-Portfolio is a web-based, interactive, and multimedia platform that allows users to access files (upload/download/transfer), communicate, store, showcase, and present their work and work-in-progress via an exterior Internet server/web site. • Since it is web-based, it is available ‘24-7’ from home, school, office or via a wireless net. • There are a number of features, depending upon one’s status (teacher; student; administrator). • Developed by Concordia University for use in Québec and the international educational community. • E-portfolios are still very much in the experimental phase.

A Closer Look… The Place We Call Home • Link a Quebec author/photographer with a class (Stephanie Gallan C-3 of SPDS) • an online, tele-collaborative project in which writers, photographers and students from 12 classes (elementary, secondary and adult education) across Quebec will communicate and collaborate in a shared virtual meeting space and produce a 24-page book of their own writings and photographs. • Combine digital photographs/images with text based upon interviews with community members • Links school, home, local history/folklore, people, places and events • Pilot Project sponsored by MELS, DGFJ-SCA, Fondation Metropolis Bleu, Bell, Canadian Heritage, Canada Council for the Arts, ESSB, LEARN and LEARNing Communities-RÉCIT
