Level 1 Accreditation This is the first of three levels that can be gained to become a referee in the 15-a-side game. Once qualified, it allows you to referee schools games, juniors and lower levels of senior grade competition.
How do I get my Level One Certificate ? • Attend a Foundation Course which is conducted over 8hrs • Successfully complete the take home theory exam (open book exam) • Viewed by an assessor to determine your competency to referee
How old do I have to be? There is no age criteria. As long as you are keen, you will find a place as a referee
Do I get a Uniform? Once you have completed your five games, you will be invited to join the NRURA and a uniform will be supplied. You supply boots and whistle.
Referees receive an allowance of $40 per game for a senior appointment. This includes women, U16 & U18 • Junior matches are paid at $20 per game
I am worried about referee abuse There are occasions when you may experience abuse by players and spectators. It is easy to deal with the players as you have the authority under the laws of the game to manage such incidents. The Yellow Card & The Red Card
Australian Rugby has a Code of Conduct for dealing with referee abuse and both players and spectators can be disciplined by the Union.
Referee Training Law reviews are done on a weekly basis prior to training on a Wednesday evening. On field coaching by experienced referee coaches is carried out throughout the season. You can expect to be coached on a regular basis or any time you request assistance or feedback.
