Starting Backyard Composting in Fall: Tips for Success

Fall is the ideal time to kickstart backyard composting, thanks to the abundant supply of leaves that serve as the primary "Browns" or dry, carbon-rich materials. To create nutrient-rich compost, combine one bucket of "Greens" (food waste, grass, nitrogen-rich materials) with three buckets of Browns. Remember to moisten the mixture until it's damp like a wrung-out sponge and turn the compost at least once a month. With patience, you can harvest your compost in 12-16 months. Follow these simple steps to build an effective compost pile this fall!
