This workshop explores the resilience of the Florida Public Utilities Company (FPUC) during the 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons. Serving approximately 27,500 customers on Amelia Island and in Marianna, FPUC faced significant challenges, with severe damage primarily caused by tornadoes from Hurricane Ivan. Despite limited resources and staffing, the utility managed to sustain minimal overall damage, with only 74 poles and 3.25 miles of wire needing repair. This session will discuss the utility’s preparation, restoration efforts, and conclusions drawn from the experience.
