  1. “New Frontiers with the Niagara Framework”August 2009 Scott Muench – Senior Applications Engineer Marc Petock – VP Marketing Communications © 2009 Tridium, Inc,

  2. Welcome! • The goal of TridiumTalk is to share with the Niagara community timely content on sales, products and technical topics.  Each session will last between 45-60 minutes and will be a mix of presentation, demonstrations and Q&A. • This session and past sessions will be posted on our community web site at www.Niagara-Central.com. • The content presented here is representative of Tridium’s Niagara technology and products in general, please contact your channel partner for specific details and pricing. • As a courtesy to others in the conference, we will place your phone on mute until the Q&A portion of the program

  3. New Frontiers with the Niagara Framework • Up until recently, the Niagara Framework's primary application has been in the building controls and facility management markets.  This however is changing as the flexibility and power of NiagaraAX is taking us into many new frontiers including telecommunications, convergence retailing, M2M, residential, medical equipment, sustainability and smart city infrastructures. In this session of TridiumTalk, we are going to take a first hand look at some new frontiers where the Niagara Framework is today and headed in the future.

Intelligent Device Management (IDM) Solution • Fuel and dispenser management and remote site • device • Encompass energy management • Remote fueling • Equipment monitoring • Diagnostics including heating/air conditioning, lighting, • power consumption, coolers and other fixtures within • store environment

  28. Intelligent Device Management (IDM) Solution Remotely monitor dispenser’s Card Reader System Log transactions start and stop as well as total time of each Monitor receipt paper status and alarm for out of paper status Log and alarm transaction anomalies Remotely monitor and control dispensers for: Flow rates Metering abnormalities Activate automatic shut off when abnormalities are detected Blend ratio data Pump status Monitor and control tank gauge controllers for: Inventories Tank and fuel temperatures Sensor health and status

  29. Package Equipment and Systems Control • Pre-packaged solar cooling and heating systems • Energy Independence System® (EIS) is the first pre-assembled, ready to install solar cooling system in the world • EIS utilizes the Niagara to integrate Solar Voltaic, Solar Hot Water in conjunction with, absorption chillers and heat exchangers to provide maximum energy savings in high end homes and commercial installations

  30. Enabling the Smart Clinical Environment • Improve hospital care and efficiency • Reduce time caregivers spend performing administrative tasks, giving nurses more time for critical thinking • Eliminate labor intensive manual processes that are vulnerable to human error (specifically entering data from medical devices into patient charts and EMR) • Enhance the level of care received by patients by increasing time available for direct nurse-to-patient care • Integration with other hospital systems to increase patient safety; aid in locating and maintaining equipment

  31. Hill-Rom • $1.6+ billion company • 8000 employees • 8 manufacturing locations • 700k beds out of 880k in US

  32. Smart Bed Connectivity Hub • Hub (Connectivity Engine) • within the bed wirelessly • collects data from associated • medical devices • Hub sends valid patient data to • the Hub Server • Hub Server communicates with • the Connectivity Bus • Connectivity Bus sends • required data to the electronic • medical record EMR

  33. Operation Overview • Locating technology in • headwall beacon creates • Association Field around bed • Hub in bed becomes • associated with headwall • beacon/room wirelessly or • wired • Equipment moved into • Association Field is • automatically identified and • associated to patient • Associated equipment • appears on display • When connected to patient, • device sends physiological • data to EMR on • defined periodic basis

  34. The Smart Clinical Environment Improved safety compliance Automated protocol Safety alerts/reminders Increased asset utilization Decreased searching Improved infection control Automated equipment locating Enhanced patient-nurse connection Improved response time Automatic detection-identification-patient/room association Automatic documentation of patient data Improved hand washing compliance Automated compliance surveillance / Direct person-to-person communication Reduced searching Increased communication efficiency Improved patient safety House-wide visibility Enhanced care coordination Complete Patient Story Applied Critical Thinking
