Revitalizing Ardmore: Habitat for Humanity’s Residential Reuse of Pure Oil Company Site

The Pure Oil Company originated in Pennsylvania in 1895 and operated the Ardmore refinery from 1915 until 1936. Following its closure, the site underwent significant environmental scrutiny, with the EPA referring it to the ODEQ in 1998. In 2000, land was donated to Ardmore Habitat for Humanity, leading to the approval of a plat for 28 residential lots. Between 2001 and 2008, substantial remediation efforts were carried out, including the removal of over 2,300 tons of lead- and petroleum-affected soil, paving the way for new homes and revitalization of the community.
