  2. Exam Board - WJEC Coursework ( Controlled Assessment) – 60% of total marks and includes three pieces of work from two different media. There are two textual investigations and one media production Exam is 40% of the total marks and is based on responding critically to an unseen text and planning and creating ideas for a new related text.

  3. What does the course involve? 'Media' is the plural of medium of communication, and the main media are: • Television • Magazines • Film • Radio • Advertising • Pop Music • Newspapers • Internet

  4. What does the course involve? • Media Studies involves the close analysis of the images, sounds and text that we experience via the media. It is the study of individual media texts such as films, TV shows, magazines, websites and • Who made them - institution? • How they were made - process? • Why they were made - purpose? • Who they were made for - audience? • What rules were followed when making them conventions and genre

What will we be doing? • As well as essays, research, and reports, Media Studies also involves practical work, where you learn the techniques involved for the production of your own media text. • You might create TV commercials, magazine pages advertisements, Film trailers, web pages • Media is a 'learn by doing' subject, and you compare your own experiences with what the 'professionals' go through and evaluate your work. • Most of our production in school is done digitally (i.e. using computers) and so should your work at home be as much as possible.

  6. Where will media studies lead? • If you want to go to University there are courses on a wide variety of media related topics: • Advertising and marketing • Journalism • Film and television production • Public relations • Animation

Why is Media Studies important? • Media Studies about understanding and appreciating the skill and creativity which goes into the production of media texts. • Its about creating new texts the are original and well designed • Its about recognising how we are affected by our media and how it influences our lives
