  6. Internal or External Conflict Mental struggle with-in a character A struggle with an outside force/character

  7. Predictions What you think will happen in a text using pictures, reading the summary, or genre

  8. A hint about what will happen next is called foreshadowing For example, if you hear this: Then you know someone’s about to get eaten!

  9. Flashback • Events from the past that interrupts the story

  10. The time and place of the story is the setting

  11. Exposition • The part of the story usually the beginning which explains the background and the setting of the story. The characters are often introduced in the exposition

  12. Rising Action • Central part of the story, during which various problems arise • Leads up to the climax

  13. The climax is the most exciting part!!

  14. Falling Action • The part of the story that follows the climax or turning point. • It contains the action or dialogue necessary to lead the story to a resolution

  15. The point of view is the perspective of the story “I was framed! I just wanted to borrow a cup of sugar!” “That rotten wolf tried to eat us!!!!”
