  2. Beaker • a glass or plastic tool used to measure liquids.

  3. Calculator • Small, electronic device used for solving mathematical problems

  4. Collecting Net • An open--meshed fabric that is used for catching fish, birds, or insects

  5. Double Pan Balance • Compares the mass of 2 objects

  6. Erlenmeyer Flask or Flask • Tool used in chemistry to heat liquids

  7. Eye Dropper/Pipette • Tool used to measure very small amounts of liquid.

  8. Graduated Cylinder • Tool used to measure the volume of liquids in mL. Measure at the meniscus.

  9. Hand Lens • Tool that is used to observe objects that are too large for a microscope

  10. Hot Plate • Tool used as a heat source, usually powered by electricity

  11. Meter Stick • Measures the length of objects in centimeters (cm).

  12. Microscope • Tool used to view very small items. They are expensive and should be carried with 2 hands.

  13. Cover Slip • Thin, plastic square used to cover the specimen that was laid out on the slide

  14. Slide • Long rectangular glass used to lay out specimens under the microscope

  15. Petri Dish • Clear plastic container that allows you to observe living organisms or grow bacteria.

  16. Spring Scale • Tool used to measure force of gravity on a object in Newtons (N).

  17. Test Tube Rack • This item was made to hold the test tubes while in use or after cleaning so they can dry.

  18. Test Tube • Small glass viles that are used to heat or mix small amounts of liquids

  19. Thermometer • A tool used for measuring temperature (degrees Celsius)

  20. Stop Watch • A watch having a hand that can be started and stopped for exact timing

  21. Triple Beam Balance • Tool that measures the mass of an object in grams (g).

  22. Tweezers/Forceps • Small, metal instrument used for picking up/holding small objects.
