  2. The AWL Highlighter • Helps you to become AWARE of how academic words are used.

  3. Sublist 1 of AWL

  4. Where to find the AWL Highlighter • http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/~alzsh3/acvocab/awlhighlighter.htm

  5. What text to use • Probably the most useful thing is a journal that you need to read for your research. • But a popular science journal is OK, too.

  6. This week’s assignment 1. Find a suitable source (journal, magazine) 2. Use the AWL Highlighter to investigate the Level 1 words that interest you. 3. Make a collection of examples with notes, translations, etc.

  7. Things to remember 1. These are your unique notes. Always think about what is useful to YOU. 2. The aim of your notes should be to help you understand AWL words deeply, i.e. be able to USE the words one day.

  8. If you can’t find good information... www.sciencedirect.com www.scirus.com www.newscientist.co.uk www.scientificamerican.com www.wired.com www.science.com
