  7. PeopleSoft Capabilities • A number of tools have been delivered over the years to help reduce the total cost of ownership and provide high value to the organization • This presentation will focus on Boeing’s adoption of a few of these tools

  8. PeopleSoft Testing Framework • Main Features • Automated testing tool (primarily functional testing) • Repeatable online testing • PeopleTools managed objects (metadata) • Tests and tests cases are stored in Application Designer • Meta data allows you to copy test cases • Easily modifiable for changes/updates in testing • Advantage over other testing tools • Part of PeopleTools - don't have to maintain a separate application/tool • Easier to test all scenarios no matter how small the change • Helps with issues identified late in a project schedule

  9. PeopleSoft Test FrameWork • Immediate Impact to Boeing • Piloted in PeopleTools 8.53 upgrade of 2013 • Asset Management • Online testing • Converted AM Depreciation (AMDPCALC) testing from QuickTest Pro to PTF (can be used for more than online) • Validation Table Entry • Online Testing

  10. PeopleSoft Test Framework • Additional anticipated uses at Boeing: • Expand use across Finance Suite in support of the PeopleSoft 9.2 upgrade • Have converted approximately 1,200 out of 3,500 test cases • Embrace ability to test all scenarios no matter how small the change • Use with issues identified late in a project schedule • i.e., if a patch has to be applied during an upgrade, you can regression test using PTF rather than having to manually re-run all the tests.

  11. PeopleSoft Testing Framework • Boeing Approach to Implementation • Initial evaluation by system architect and testing architect • Assigned a focused team • Provided formal Oracle PTF class training • Lunch-n-learns for sharing with the rest of the team • Internal Boeing teams assigned to convert some test scripts to ensure Boeing resources gained the knowledge. • Leveraged sourcing partner for a lot of the conversion • Convert existing Excel-based test scripts to PTF (gobs of manual labor)

  12. PeopleSoft Testing Framework • Tips • Have a focused team • Start with teams that have existing test cases well documented • Develop a strategy for building repeatable test data • Building test repository • Leverage sourcing partners to assist in converting manual test cases • Include in-house resources so they have the knowledge as well • Use a separate server to run tests rather than tying up the tester’s machine • Don’t Minimize the Work • One-time Conversion effort is significant • Continuing efforts for test submittal and analyzing results • Benefit is there, but have to commit to the effort

  13. Related Content Main Features • Provides easy access to related items • Bring additional info to the user • Reduce navigation • Eliminate unnecessary ‘clicks’ • Many options on items that can exist in Related Content • Easy setup • Very few steps to setup a new Related Content • Can quickly change the content of existing Related Content (single place that points to the content) • Configuration rather than customization • No coding required (reduces development and testing) • Not impacted by upgrades • Reduce customizations

  14. Related Content • Immediate Impact to Boeing • Journals • Errors on same tab as journal lines • Edit and Assignment Logic • Helpful hints • Allocations • Related Queries • List of Ledgers • Additional anticipated uses: • Potential for focused training by page • Links to related applications within Boeing • Focused public queries

  15. Related Content • Boeing Implementation Approach • Initial evaluation by system architecture team • Demonstration to Financial Systems group • Each group will have different ideas on how comparing or moving configuration data will be of value • Each group worked with their internal users for feedback and recommendations • Implementation rolled out in conjunction with blockpoint functionality releases

  16. Related Content Examples • Query • Use queries to reduce navigation clicks between pages • Related Documentation • Reference external documentation to eliminate navigation • Training • Display training information to assist with usage on complex pages (text and/or videos) • External Applications • Eliminate navigating back and forth between applications • Reports • Allow users to pull up reports in the Related Content window • PeopleSoft Page • Display a related PS Page, rather than have the user navigate

  17. Related Content Example One Page to view Journal Lines A second Page to view Journal Errors

  18. Related Content Example User Related Content to pull in the Journal Errors on the same page as the Journal Lines (using a Query) Lines Errors

  19. Related Content - Some Quick Tips • Get your feet wet • Start with a few examples – the ideas will start flowing • Get input regarding what type of information is frequently needed when working within the PeopleSoft application • Poll the user community • Don’t get carried away – don’t overload the pages with Related Content • Find the most useful information to share • Don’t try to include everything if only a few will use the items

  20. Data Migration Workbench • Main features • Ability to move configuration in the same manner as code • Provides some validations of Configuration • Workflow/Approvals • Ability to compare configuration data between environments

  21. Data Migration Workbench • Immediate Impact to Boeing • Allocations • Boeing currently uses a custom migration process to move Allocation table entries • Boeing would expect to replace that custom tool with DMW • Will provide validations and workflow • Using the compare functionality to verify setup of run controls in test prior to running parallel testing

  22. Data Migration Workbench • Additional anticipated uses: • Ledger setup migration between environments • Test data migration between environments • Recreate error scenarios • Production data migration to test environments • Job Set migration between environments • Run Control migration between test environments

  23. Data Migration Workbench • Boeing Implementation Approach • Initial evaluation by system architecture team • Demonstration to Financial Systems group • Each group will have different ideas on how comparing or moving configuration data will be of value • Plan and implement usage

  24. Upgrade Approach & Strategy • ‘Functionality Neutral’ Upgrade • Upgrade the software without changing existing functionality • Once the upgrade is complete, work with the customer groups to identify new features and functionality • ‘Technology Only’ Upgrade Enhancements • Quickly embrace new ‘behind the scenes’ functionality • Must be virtually invisible to the user • Must be fully vetted early in the upgrade. • Utilize Boeing employee’s expertise and augment with outside resources • PS Admin support with current upgrade experience • Additional support for teams with the most customizations • Automated testing tool support

  25. PS 9.2 Features • PS9.2 Functionality • Each module team evaluates Release Notes and Cumulative Feature Overview • Spreadsheet to track items of interest • PeopleSoft Update Manager • Data Migration WorkBench • WorkCenters • Activity Guides

  26. PeopleSoft Update Manager • Main Features • New method of applying maintenance and enhancements • Quick all-encompassing install of a full demo environment • Provides customers with the ability to decide which fixes or enhancements to apply • Examples: • Get current on all modules • Get current on a specific module • Pull in a specific fix • Pull in all severity one fixes • Pull in all fixes related to a specific page • Etc. • Objects and changes in the package can be viewed before applying • Automatically includes any dependencies or pre-requisites

  27. PeopleSoft Upgrade Manager • Immediate Impact to Boeing • Quick all-encompassing install of a full demo environment (includes App, DB, App servers, web servers, etc) • Ability to stand up a demo to evaluate PS 9.2 in ~30 minutes • Additional anticipated uses for Boeing: • Ability to pull out individual fixes (plus dependencies if required) • Allows you to apply fixes much later in the upgrade process • Allows faster method to find and apply production fixes • Take advantage of new enhancements without having to apply all bundles

  28. PeopleSoft Update Manager • Boeing Implementation Approach • Initial evaluation by system architecture team • Test pull of demo 9.2 with PUM • Demonstration to the Financial Systems group • Ongoing management of updates within the Financial System
