  1. Tony Tran | ITEC4900 Internship | Dr. Rowan | March 16th, 2009 Day 12

  2. Outline • Previous goals. • Projects for spring break. • Automated contact from GGC. • Control panel in classrooms. • Student government related topics. • Next week goals.

  3. Previous goals. • VMWARE research- This is the future of the campus at GGC. • completed 3/2/09. • HTML Survey Questions- It has been determined that this will be added to throughout the semester and presented at the end for future semesters. • In progress as of 3/6/09.

  4. Projects for spring break. • Lost member of IT department- one of the key members has left GGC and joined Georgia Tech. • No new projects to be started on during spring break. • In actuality, will use spring break to maintain the existing system and fix some bugs.

  5. Automated contact from GGC. • This is done through the public relations department at GGC. • Contact is made by Jenny Stevens to a third party company called ConnectED. • ConnectED dispatches the emails and phone calls as well as the GGC website. • Although at times redundant, multiple forms of communication is key to contacting all people. • This topic has come about due to the closing of school on 3/2/09 because of snow.

  6. Control panel in classrooms. • What is it? • A commercial product that GGC has purchased to put in all classrooms, both computer related or not. • Is it available in all classrooms? • Yes, available in all classrooms with or without computers. The main/professor computer has this. • GGC has strived for all classrooms to be alike.

  7. Student government related topics. • Relating to my HTML survey to help students: • Would students like to pay a rental fee per semester to rent a laptop from the school? • Some colleges already do this. • Students have the option to also purchase the laptop. • This is an answer to the current economy as well as students not having “compatible” hardware of software.

  8. More on rented laptop. • Will be linked to student accounts, an extra fee will apply. • Serial # of laptop will be logged via unique GGC sticker. • Student must either return laptop or renew at the end of each semester. • Additional fees will apply for damage, missing accessories, etc. • Tech support voucher for (5) tech visits.

  9. More on rented laptop. • Tech Support Vouchers: • Able to turn in laptop for software related issues. • Hardware issues are covered however only (2) replacements per semester. • Software will be overhauled after every rental. • MORE: • A new department here at GGC, supplying more jobs for both paid employees & internships. • Discounted laptop pricing for both the school/students.

  10. Next week goals for 3/16/09 • Find out who supplies the control panel system & more details on its workings. • Get in contact with student government or some department to find out if laptop renting is a possibility. • Put together more questions for the HTML survey for students.
