  2. Objective: Students will solve word problems involving decimals. • Standard: NS 2.1 Add, subtract, multiply, and divide with decimals, and verify the reasonableness of the results.

  3. Decimal Poem Decimal point, decimal point, where do you go? In addition and subtraction, You line up in a row.   4. Warm Up • On your whiteboards, find solutions to the following problems: 459.8 – 12.34 24.67 X 1.8 0.63 ÷ 0.07 1.92 + 26 447.46 44.406 9 27.92

  5. Center Directions • You will be working in groups to solve a word problem. • You will need to complete the worksheet for each problem. • You will have 12 minutes at a center, then rotate to the next center. • Your group will be responsible to present your solutions to the class.

  6. Group Norms • Listen to each other’s ideas. • Respect everyone’s opinion by asking for clarification. • Politely agree or disagree. • Investigate together and stay on task. • Make sure everyone in your group can explain your group’s thought process.

  7. Watch Me • Homer bought 3 small bags of potato chips that cost 69 cents each. How much did they cost altogether? • $2.07

  10. #2 • Max and Moe each timed his own quarter-mile run with a stopwatch. Max says that he ran the quarter in 74.5 seconds. Moe is more accurate. He reported his run as 81.34 seconds. How many seconds faster did Max run than Moe? • Max ran 6.84 seconds faster than Moe.

  11. #3 • Lexi has $25 to buy workout clothes. She needs to buy a pair of gym shorts for $7.95, a long-sleeved t-shirt for $8.29, and a pair of crew socks for $3.50. Does Lexi have enough money to pay for all three items? If so, how much change will she get back? (All items include sales tax.) • Yes, Lexi has enough money. She has $5.26 left.

  12. #4 • The price of an ant farm is twenty-eight dollars. The cash register multiplies the price by 1.07 to find the total cost including tax. What is the total cost of the ant farm? • The total cost of the ant farm is $29.96.

  13. Ticket Out the Door • It costs 33 cents to mail a letter and 20 cents to mail a postcard. Maria is going to the post office to mail two letters and three postcards. She has $2 to spend. Does she have enough money? If so, how much change will she get back?
