  2. Example of Expository Prompt • Writing Situation: Most teenagers have chores. • Directions for writing: Think about why it is important for teenagers to have chores. Now write to explain why it is important for teenagers to have chores. • Now what? Everybody PAC! • Purpose, Audience, Context!

  4. PAC—Yeah, you know me! • Purpose—Determine why you are writing • Audience—Determine who you are writing to • Context—Determine the specific situation that will help focus your writing • Do this before you even begin your pre-writing!

  5. Now you try! • Writing Situation: The principal of your school has suggested that watching TV causes students’ grades to drop. • Directions for Writing: Think about the effect watching TV has on your grades and your friends’ grades. Now write to convince your principal whether watching TV causes students’ grades to drop

  6. One more, just for kicks • Writing Situation: Today’s students have more access to computers than students of fifteen years ago. • Directions for Writing: Before you begin writing, think about your experiences with computers. Now write to explain ways you as a student benefit or can benefit from the computer technology available to you in your educational, work, and/or personal life.

  7. Just kidding, here’s another one • Writing Situation: Many writers, scientists, amd politicians have a view of what the world will be like in 50 years. • Directions for Writing: What do you think the world will be like by the time you are in your 60s? Think of the future and the direction that the world is headed. Write an essay to your teacher explaining what you think this world will be like.
