  1. Northern Ireland AAA Care Pathway Implementation Meeting A multidisciplinary implementation day for the care of patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). Run by the National AAA Quality Improvement Programme. THURSDAY 26TH MAY 2011 10:00AM-4:00PM Crescent Church Conference Facilities, 6 University Road, Belfast, BT7 1NH Aim of the day: To plan the implementation of a regional care pathway for patients with AAA in Northern Ireland. Attendees: Vascular Surgeons, Anaesthetists, Interventional Radiologists, Nurses, Managers, CVN members and AAA patients from the region. Please bring your team to enable you to effectively plan your local implementation strategy. • Key Objectives: • Review Northern Ireland’s National Vascular Database (NVD) contribution with a view to sharing best practices across hospitals in the region. • Reduce variation and increase the reliability of AAA care delivery by standardising the management of patients coming to surgery. • Identify and agree the core best practice protocols for the management of elective AAA within the region. • Develop a multi-disciplinary care pathway with input from all clinical disciplines to ensure patient safety and satisfaction through the pathway. • Identify how best to work with Trusts and clinicians to implement the agreed AAA care pathway across the region.

Northern Ireland AAA Care Pathway Regional Implementation Meeting Thursday the 26th May 2011, 10:00am-4:00PM Crescent Church Conference Facilities, 6 University Road, Belfast, BT7 1NH Programme of the Day • Introduction to AAA QIP. • Northern Ireland’s NVD contribution and mortality data. • Case study from another regional action plan. • Quality Improvement and R.A.P objectives. • Group Sessions • ASSESSMENT: Pre-operative care bundle • CARE DELIVERY: Intra-operative • CARE DELIVERY: Post-operative • COMMUNICATION: Consultation with patients • MEASUREMENT: Outcome, process and turn down rates 6. Working with the QIP to measure changes in the region: • Outcome measures and data capture: Mortality. LOS, complications. • Process measures: Adherence to the agreed AAA care pathway. 7. How to disseminate plans, obtain agreement and embed in practice (commissioners, CQUIN). Method: • Identification of a champion/leader for each element of the care pathway. • Small group discussions on each element. • Discussion to examine the outputs produced, consider how they fit together, and agree next steps.
