In today's class, pick up your quiz from the front table and reflect on the differences between "there", "their", and "they’re" in your Bell Journal. Don’t forget to add your answers to the quiz in the format provided. We’ll also distribute new vocabulary worksheets and a homework calendar for the upcoming weeks. Prepare for a discussion on "The Coming of Beowulf" (pages 41-46) during Wednesday's class. Remember to review your Articles of the Week and sentences, and improve your writing using the sentence structure rubric.

November 5, 2012, b Day • Pick up a copy of the quiz from the front table. Open your Bell Journal and write down the difference between There/Their/They’re. Then add your answers to the quiz in your bell journal. Your answers should appear something like this: • 1. (your answer) • 2. (your answer) • 3. (etc.) Do Not Write on the Quiz!
Pass out Papers • New Vocabulary Worksheets • New Homework Calendar (no, this does not contain allhomework assignments for the next two months, but it should be accurate for the most part). • Wednesday Homework (not listed) read The Coming of Beowulf, pages 41-46, and come to class ready to discuss it. • Article of the week #11
Vocabulary • Copy directly onto your worksheet using all formatting and punctuation exactly as you see it! • Compassionate: adj. Feeling or showing sympathy and concern for others. • Yes, I know this is an old vocabulary word—just do it!
Sentences review • Get ready for another Summative Assessment! • Students on the first row will pass back portfolios. • Find your Articles of the Week, and your Sentences PowerPoint Notes • Review Sentences PowerPoint • Each row facing forward is a team (Rows 1, 2, and 3), and the side rows are one team (Rows 4, 5, and 6). • Play Jeopardy!
Sentence Revision • Review your existing Articles of the Week, and identify the one you feel best about. • Underline at least three of your favorite sentences (best rhetoric) and share them with your closest neighbor. • Look at the sentence structure rubric on the back of your new vocabulary worksheet. • Discuss sentence structure issues with your neighbor. • Use your best AoW rhetoric to create one new simple sentence, one new compound sentence, and one new complex sentence. • Have your neighbor review your new sentences before you rewrite them in your best handwriting.
Wrap-UP • Put your new sentences in your English pocket or writing portfolio, and be prepared to use them in class on Wednesday! • Put your portfolios in order and pass them forward. • Front row people will put portfolios back in the file!
IF you Have time • Read from Beowulf: The Coming of Beowulfin your textbooks (pages 41-46). • Prepare to discuss what you read for Wednesday. • Put your books away neatly beneath your seats. (Mr. Yee does not enjoy cleaning up after you!)
DON’T FORGET • You may not leave the room until the sub dismisses you!
