  5. Minoans – Polytheistic • Polytheistic – Believed in many Gods • Main God – Great Goddess, Mother Earth • Built Shrines and temples to honor the Gods • Gave offerings of: • Food • Fruits • Human hair • Flowers

  6. Phoenicians • Most powerful traders in the Med. Sea • City – States: Byblos, Tyre, Sidon – Major Trading Centers

  7. What Good Did They Trade? • Purple Dye from a snail • Papyrus • Wine • Weapons • Metals • Ivory • Wood

  8. Expanded The Empire • Phoenicians were unique in the fact that they expanded their civilization by creating colonies • Carthage – Coast of North Africa (Greatest Colony)
