Mid Day Meal Scheme

The PAB-MDM meeting held on February 7, 2014, in Goa reviewed the implementation of the Mid Day Meal Scheme (MDMS) for primary and upper primary students from April 1, 2013, to December 31, 2013. Key issues highlighted included limited SSMC meetings, underutilization of MME funds, and inadequate meal quality. Best practices showcased included the involvement of women self-help groups and training for cook-cum-helpers. Coverage of the program for primary and upper primary children was detailed, with performance metrics and proposals for the upcoming years outlined by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

  5. Issues • Only one SSMC Meeting held. • Nil MME Utilisation. • Meal served by SHG was not served hot in all the 34 sample schools. • The children were given fixed one pao which is not as per the quantity of the meal to be served under MDM in the schools as per the grains allotted per child.

Best Practices • Involvement of women self help groups. • Lesser involvement of teachers in Mid Day Meal scheme. • Training of cook-cum-helpers. • Fire Extinguishers are provided to schools. • Display of phone number of Primary Health Centre, Fire Services, Police Station, A.D.E.I. , Director of Education and Zonal Office in every school.
