I specialized in the Cold War and have been working in this field for 5 years now. My work is my life.   8. Festival of Britain Flyer The Festival of Britain was created to provide a release to Britain from pressure a “tonic” for the people. The festivals main purpose was to serve as a contribute to civilization, past, present, and future, in the arts, in science and technology, and in industrial design.   9. The Beatles Drum The group that is still known as the most influential bands of all tomes. The brought a wave of pop culture through the cold war shaking up everything in the music industry. They helped bring the two fighting worlds together through their music expressing political and social commentary in their music. They didn't’t just stop at music but influenced fashion as well.   10. Royal Weddings Royal weddings were on of the most popular events to watch. The weddings had become an event for the whole world to see. When Queen Elizabeth got married the weddings became more of a global event.   11. 1948 London Olympics Banner The 1948 Olympics were the first Olympic since the WWII. London was asked to host with short noticed and pulled through. The 1948 games were t the very beginning of when the Cold War began and the tension between America and the USSR.   12. 1969 Woodstock Banner Woodstock was a rebellion n America against the war going on. People gathered saying that the country needed to be at peace and stop fighting, Hippies were a big part of the war they hated it and didn’t want to fight anymore. They were sometimes very crude to those who fought. These rebels had other gatherings as well including Summer of Love. Elvis “The King of Rock and Roll” 1958 Elvis was drafted into the tank division to help in the Berlin Crisis, the East Germans saw Elvis as a threat and created types of anti- Elvis movements including Lipsi. A type of dancing that required a partner and was like a rumba/ waltz. The dance could not be performed with singles and was a set rule. Propaganda was used to promote the Lipsi but could not replace Elvis. Elvis soon asked, “What the hell are we doin’ this for anyway?”, with no reply. Elvis was very much against the war. Elvis was also great help in Germany when tried to “to help overcome widespread German unease over the rearmament of West Germany.” Elvis returned home 1960 and went straight to work.   14. TV Dinners With the invention of the TV and the freezer came TV dinners. TV dinners caused a kind of meal time revolution giving a quicker substitute to dinners in the fast pasted life of Americans. Women were now working and had no time like they used to and this was seen as a quick solution.   15. JFK has Fallen With the assignation of JFK America was shut down. Americans had their utopian society crumble with their perfect president being killed. He wanted to fight the war with out all the violence and cause as little disturbance as possible. When he was shot the whole world shift and America had to act fast and swear in Lyndon B.   16. Russian Jeans on Black Market Russia’s black market was in desperate need of jeans because they were outlawed in he 1980s. Americans had exchange centers were all their old jeans could be recycled for thirty bucks. This was a big hit and this jeans would be sent over to Russia and sold on the black market.   17. Wendy’s Fashion Show In the 80s Wendy’s came out with a commercial that mocked the Soviets with with their lack of choice on anything. It had a model come out with the same outfit portraying it as evening, swim, and day wear.   18. USSR vs. Canada Hockey 1972 USSR and Canada went head to head competing in the Summit Series when a fight broke out. The while world stopped and stared at thee amusing scene. Before the games the Canadians were treated with disrespect staying in Sweden. The USSR tried to cut them short on practice time and other things to try to distract them from the game but it did not work Canada won and went home the honor of beating the Soviets. • "Russia vs Canada Hockey - Google Search."   19. Winter Olympics 1956 This was the first Olympic since WWI when all of the nations competed. The USSR faced Hungary in water polo and Hungary came to win no matter what it took and a riot broke out causing the whole crowed came to plunged toward the Soviets after a false call was made on Hungary the crowd was furious and want the Hungarians to get what they deserved. • Olympist."   20. Hasselhoff Sings at Berlin Wall The famous star from Baywatch went to the Berlin wall and sang as the wall fell returning the world to its natural boarders. David Hasselhoff was famous in Germany because of his car and was asked to perform as the Berlin Wall fell and unit the world again.   21. Berlin Wall The Berlin Wall was set to divide the world in half between the Democratic and Communist views. The wall went up in 1961 and when that happened cultures were separated. The west was the democratic side and east communist. The east was pictured as the free and west as enslaved by the USSR and to some existent it was true.   22. Peter Fetcher In 1962 right after the Berlin Wall went up a young man by the name of Peter Fetcher tried to escape East Berlin. The wall was heavily guarded him and his friend decide to go. He was then shot in the “death strip” by Rolf Friedrich and Erich Schreiber. After an hour guards retreived his body.   23. Nelson Mandela The ANA and the PAC protested in South Africa causing big commotion and many protesters were shot, wounded, or arrested.   24. Paris Students Riot • The students had trouble with the university on political and society beliefs they called the police. Since then the students kept running into trouble with the police and finally they took charge and began to rebel. They wanted all criminal charges against arrested students be dropped, • the police leave the university, and • the authorities reopen Nanterre and Sorbonne. • Negotiations broke down, and students returned to their campuses after a false report that the government had agreed to reopen them, only to discover the police still occupying the schools. The students now had a near revolutionary fervor. They made barricades and tearing up the whole city. Finally after awhile the communist agreed to the elections. • "Paris Student Riots: May 1968."   25. Artifact 20 October 1960 the USA put an embargo on Cuban goods because of their alliance with the USSR. This included their cigars, which were considered to be the worlds finest. Many Americans including President John F. Kennedy found ways to smuggle them into the country. • Moran, Lee.   26. James Bond Movie • The movie James Bond was a way of mocking the eastern side of the world. In the movie Bond takes down a Russian spy.
