Pointers for Paraphrase: • Keep all important information • Names of people • Details about when and where • Examples • Ideas • Example: • On Tuesday Jack Townsend, the head Scottsdale realtor, announced the firm would shut down by Dec.1. • A closing date of the first of December was forecast by Jack Townsend, the leader of the Scottsdale Real Estate Agency, on Tuesday.

  4. Even when you paraphrase the words from the original, you must cite the source parenthetically

  5. Source should be cited with the last name of the author or the title of the article in parenthesis or in the sentence itself. The Kansas City football legend and broadcaster was honored at a fundraiser Saturday night at the Hereford House Restaurant (Townsend A10). The head of the pet show offered her opinion of the dog abuse that had been rampant in the state (“Travesty in Rural Missouri”). Bob Smith feels that Roger Ebert’s opinion of movies overall has seemed to get more positive since his bout with cancer a couple of years ago.

  6. Do not just follow the sentence structure and plug in synonyms or use more three words from original in a row.

  7. However, if you do have three or more words in a row like the original, you must putthem in quotation marks.

  8. You cannot include your own opinion in paraphrased material.
