Progress Energy Load Revision and Update for 2012 RA Plan Scott M. DeitcheProject Engineer
Background • Bartow plant is decommissioning on-site detention ponds and diverting process water to cooling water intake. Ultimately discharge to Old Tampa Bay. • Summer 2013 • Not a “new” discharge. Both atmospheric and unknown groundwater contributions.
former To be decommissioned
Allocation Request • Progress Energy is requesting a surface discharge allocation of 3 tons/year
Reductions from repowering facility • Repowering of the plant (online in 2009): average atmospheric reduction of 2,726 tons NOx from 2010-2011 • For every 100 tons NOx in atmospheric discharge, 0.19% is deposited to the Bay as direct nitrogen loadings (ECT, TECO) • Progress Energy reduced their direct Bay loadings by 5.18 tons from 2010-2011
Requesting concurrence from Consortium on allocating 3 tons/yr surface discharge in Old Tampa Bay for Progress Energy
