  1. CATTLE SENSING DEVICES MISSI CROSS

  2. Sensing Devices in Cattle • Tracking Movement of Cattle with Satellites • Mobile Sensing Network for Autonomous Animal Control • Virtual Fencing for Cattle

  3. Tracking Movement of Cattle with Satellites • This is very similar to On Star in vehicles • A collar equipped with a Global Positioning System (GPS) and radio receivers is put onto cattle • Researchers want to know where and why cattle roam where they do • Also to have a better understanding of cattle grazing behaviors • This would allow ranchers to disperse their cattle more effectively

  4. Collar With Tracking Device

  5. Tracking Movement of Cattle with Satellites • These collars receive information from a constellation of 24 to 30 satellites that may be working at any one time. • With this information it tells within a few meters of where the cattle are at in the field and at what time they were there • It can also track head movement which indicates weather the cattle are eating, sleeping, or walking

  6. Mobile Sensing Network for Autonomous Animal Control • This is a sensing system that is designed to keep bulls from fighting • During breeding season the fighting can result in serious injury and reduce the value of the bull tremendously • This uses electrical stimuli to keep them from fighting

  7. This is a specially designed collar which contains pockets to hold-The FLECK board and Stimuli Board box-2 Batteries-GPS Antenna -Radio Antenna

  8. Mobile Sensing Network for Autonomous Animal Control • This sensing network uses GPS to track the bulls movement • It uses different values of thresholds which indicates if the bull is acting aggressive or not • Once the bull is being aggressive then it triggers electrical stimuli • Which usually makes the bull stop or turn around

  9. Virtual Fencing • The cattle would wear a collar that is designed to carry: • Electronics • GPS • Radio antenna • Batteries • Equipment providing the stimuli (including audio, vibration, light and electrical stimulation)

  10. Virtual Fencing Collars

  11. Virtual Fencing • It gives the cattle warnings as they get close to the fence • Starting with vibrations and progressing to a electrical Stimuli • It may take the cattle a short amount of time to figure out where the virtual fence • Once the cattle know where it is then they will more than likely stay away from it

  12. Virtual Fencing • It would do away with the barb wire and post • The researchers found it worked better when providing the cattle with a visual aid (electric fence), along with the collar
