Preventable deaths on the battlefield

In the chaos of battlefield medicine, numerous preventable deaths can occur due to extremity bleeding, tension pneumothorax, and airway occlusion. If correct procedures are performed within the first ten minutes, lives can be saved. Key life-saving surgical interventions include the application of tourniquets and topical hemostatic agents like QuikClot and Celox for extremity bleeding, thoracocentesis and chest drain insertion for tension pneumothorax, and establishing a surgical airway for airway obstruction. Timely action is critical to survival.
